Mindfulness

Mindfulness

Although this is not a therapy model in itself, it has over the last 10 years gained much popularity in mental health settings and is often a significant part of therapy. It can be described as a way of learning to be present where you are, staying in the moment and accepting what there is at that specific moment. It originates in Buddhist philosophy but is not a specific religion or belief. Jon KabatZinn was one person instrumental to introducing it to the area of mental health and chronic pain and research has shown that it can improve a persons quality of life.
